Sassa is available to provide social grants to people who are at risk of poverty and who need government support “to improve their quality of life. With the current state of South Africa and the closure of the economy and employment in the country, many people they have been less disadvantaged as their health has declined and job losses are still visible.

Earlier in the week, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced across the country that he would spend R500 billion on grants and funds for the national closure. One of these assistance programs is that R350 is awarded to unemployed people who cannot access other grants, which may amount to millions of people. This grant will be distributed for a period of six months.
Some have said that it is impossible to earn a living with R350 a month. If you do your math, that would equate to about $ 12 a day for bread. It is also important to note that it is not R350 per household, but there is R350 for anyone who is entitled to it.
What are the requirements to receive this grant?
- You shouldn’t work
- You may not receive any other benefits (for example, child support, NSFAS, pensions, etc.)
- You shouldn’t find a fund in UIFMust be South African / Registered / Foreign with valid permit
How do you register?
Registration will be possible using SSD or WhatsApp.

After that, they will check if the information you provided is correct in their database and the system will confirm if you are eligible or not.
Initial payments are expected to be made in early May.

Sassa works with the community through NGOs in the community to find ways to help people who do not have access to the registry and registry team.
