Basic minimum requirements
The basic minimum requirements for a Grade R Teacher diploma is a grade 12 / matric certificate with a minimum of 30% in the Language of learning and teaching (First Language), 40% for Mathematics and 60% for Mathematical Literacy of the higher education institution as certified by Umalusi, coupled with an achievement rating of 4 or better in four subjects from the designated 20-credit subject list. (Government Notice, No. 751, 11 July 2008). If you fail to comply with the Mathematics requirements, it is compulsory to enroll for the module, Introduction to Mathematics in the first academic year. One conversational language is compulsory for all English and Afrikaans students as First Language endorsement on the NSC.
